Website Data Privacy Notice
The Edinburgh Makars aim to be transparent in the use
that we make of personal data and to take such steps as are reasonable
for a small, member-funded organisation to ensure the security of such
data in accordance with data protection regulations. This privacy
notice applies to visitors to this website. There is a separate data
privacy notice for those who join The Edinburgh Makars as members,
associate
members or patrons.
Log files
In common with most websites, this one will detect your IP address and
some other details such as the type of browser you are using. This
enables us to present pages in a suitable form for your device. We also
log which pages you visit for statistical purposes, but will not gather
any information that would identify you personally.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your computer, and accessible
only to the websites which create them. At present we only use cookies
to record whether you prefer to see the mobile version of our website
or the desktop version. This cookie is deleted when you close your
browser. We may in future use a cookie to record whether you have
logged in to our Member Area.
We do not use cookies to gather other information or to track your
browsing outside this website. We do not use Google analytics.
Use of personal
information
When you buy tickets through this website, you enter contact details
and details of the tickets you want. All information you enter is sent on an encrypted connection to our server. We
pass some of these details to Paypal, including the payment due, so
that you can make payment by credit or debit card. Your communication
with Paypal is also on an encrypted connection and subject to Paypal's data
privacy policy. We have no access to your credit or debit card details,
although we are informed when your payment has cleared.
Your contact details and ticket order are stored securely on our server
and may be downloaded to the computer of the member of the club
handling online ticket sales for that show and will be provided to Front of House staff and our
Treasurer. Details of ticket sales, in common with other financial
information, will be kept for 6 years from the end of the relevant
accounting year, but they will be removed from the server after each
show.
If
you have ticked the box to say that you would like to receive details
of future shows, your name and email address will be kept by our
Secretary and used for this purpose until you let us know you wish to
unsubscribe from this list. We will not use your contact details for
any other purpose or pass them on to any other organisation.
There is a facility on the website for Members to renew their subscriptions. This
works in a similar way to the purchase of tickets using an encrypted
connection to Paypal for credit or debit card details to be entered. We
have no access to your credit or debit card details.
There is a facility on the website for people interested in joining the
club to fill out an enquiry form providing contact details and some
information about previous theatre experience. This is sent to our
server using an encrypted connection and is forwarded by email to our
Secretary. No copy is retained on the server.
The data described above may be accessed by the company which hosts the
website for us (but not any information you pass directly to Paypal).
We have arrangements with them which ensures the security of this
information.
